These flash flood photos were taken by someone who visited Mag-Aso Falls at the island of Bohol, Philippines on June 30, 2009. It was a “near-death experience” for them.

This is the waterfall. They had just gotten there. It had been raining, but stopped.

The falls are about 25 feet tall. The water collects in a pool. It’s not deep, and it’s a beautiful and idea place for enjoying water. Take note that there’s a bamboo raft.

Two guys were swimming and playing on the raft near to the waterfall.

They went closer to the falls.

There is some space behind the falls. The two guys went back there.

This is the view of downstream. It’s very shallow. Notice the picnic table. This is the same table shown in the photos later.

Suddenly it got very loud and water came out of nowhere. The two guys can’t escape and should still stayed behind the falls. These photos were taken before realized that it was flash flood.

This photo was taken perhaps 30 seconds later after the flash flood.

Another view of downstream. The picnic table is the same one in the earlier photo.

Water is still rising fast.

A view of the falls, as they now look. Those two guys are still back there. No one notice them swept away, so maybe they’re still alive…

The water is full of bamboo, mud, etc. It’s still surging, very loud. At this point, there are a lot of people waiting to see if that two guys are safe.

This photo was taken an hour later and the falls are still at flood stage. The cameraman and friends left on the last bus back to the city. Still no news of that two guys at this time.
Here’s the video of the flash flood in Mag-Aso Falls, Bohol.

This flash flood news was reported in local papers few days later and the bad news is, the bodies of the two men were discovered, somewhere 5km downstream.
