The 19-year-old Miss Singapore World 2009 Ris Low, was convicted of credit card fraud in April and May last year. She worked as a patient-service assistant for five months and used credit cards belonging to the patients to buy two gold anklets worth almost $1,000, a $698 mobile phone, and spent for food and drinks at a swanky restaurant.

She was asked to leave the company and she had returned part of the unspecified amount she had spent using the cards before leaving.

The beauty queen was convicted of five charges of misappropriation, cheating using illegally obtained credit cards, and impersonating their users’ identities.

The first-time offender was sentenced in May this year to 24 months of supervised probation. She spent more than $2,400 on at least four separate occasions, using at least three different credit cards in April and May last year.

Ris Low was a hot topic in Internet due to her poor command of spoken English but this time she becomes a hot topic again for the criminal conviction. Netizens especially Singaporeans are debating on whether she is eligible to represent Singapore for the Miss World 2009 beauty pageant in Johannesburg, South Africa, in December this year. I hope she can represent Singapore for the World beauty pageant; she will be the spotlight in the pageant because she is so special.
