Reuters Photoshops These Two Photos?
Sep 13
It has nothing special if we just see this photo alone. But if the second photo was published together with this photo, you can see there is something not logic in these two photos, which were published in Reuters.
The caption of this photo is “Georgians stand next to the body of their son in the town of Gori”. The woman is looking up towards the sky from where, presumably, death had stricken “her son”.
Take note 1: the pole beside the old man, it’s near to him.
Take note 2: the distance of “the son” and the old man.
OK, let’s see the second photo.
1. The pole is so far away from the old man compared to first photo.
2. The distance between “the son” and the old man is further compared to first photo.
Question: Reuters photoshopped these two photos? If they don’t, what is the best explanation for the different between these two photos?
Someone was saying that it was due to longest zoom or focal length required to frame the shot and something to do with the wide angle.
I don’t agree with this explanation although I’m not an expert in photographing; but I also don’t see the reason why Reuters needs to photoshopped these photos.

before i reach the part about focal, i was already thingking about that…
Yes, photo taken from two type of lenses will make a lot of difference…
the first picture definitely taken using telephoto… probably while the photographer still very far away from the scene…
the second picture is taken using shorter focal lens… probably when the photgrapher reach nearer, the photographer uses another camera with wide angle and shorter focal…
my opinion, it was not doctored… but im not professional either… but i will stick to that… :D
Hey swordie, u said u are not a professional but what u explained really looks like a pro :) Thanks for sharing your opinion here.
Agree with swordie. Its ibvious if you know a bit about professional photo. it is two different photos, with different cameras/objectives/lenses and taken from different angles and distances.
with zoom lens stuff looks like it is closer toghether.
I would guess that the body has been moved is a more likely explanation. Look at the position and orientation of the body between the two shots. Also notice the cut on the shirt and back of the corpse is more prominent in the 2nd shot. Leg positioning is different too.
Some people like to "pretend" and talk like a "professional photographer". I am not a professional photographer but I am selling cameras for professional photographing. "Zoom" is not the same as "Move"! You can zoom or use diff lenses for diff photo effects but these 2 photos are "photoshopped", the body was "moved" near to the pole, not "zoom"!
Surely the most sensible option is that the bodies have been phsically moved between shots?
Ahah! I see why. Not the lens. Surely Photoshopped. Look VERY closely at the pole in the first shot. Its coming out of the ground at near that black tarp lookin thing. The old man is really not standing close to the pole in the first photo. To see it specfically look at the area in the photo DIRECTLY above his hand. And below his hand the supposed "pole" is bent… They arent the same pole, or w/e its supposed to be
100% Photoshopped! Those fake professional photographers please stop cheating us again!
It's simple, look the angle of the photos and think a little, we don`t need be professional to see the diference…
The two photos of the old man are obviously not the same.
I can't say that either photo wasn't photoshopped, but I can say that all the major elements of the two differ in ways that are much easier to do by using two lenses of different focal length from different vantage points.
The upper photo used a long lens from a considerable distance, the lower one used a short lens relatively close to the scene.
Argument against photoshop: A slightly different angle and lens would account for the distance difference, think those scary movies where the hallway seems to move before someone runs down it (ie The Shining) just a camera trick, no touch ups.
For Scene Doctoring: That dead guys shirt has a rip and wrinkles that seem to change. Then again, are you going to stop Granny from tugging on her dead kid cause some people might think you were messin' with the photos?
anyone that thinks these photos are doctored should learn a little about photography before assumming your a photoshop expert.
Everything is Fake!
Not photoshopped. The reason why the rips seem different is because the 2nd photo is taken from a slightly higher angle and you can see what is behind the branch, which is obstructing the rip in the 1st picture. Also, you can’t see the bent part of the post in the 2nd picture because of the mother’s arm.
What is the debris behind the old man in the top photo and where is it in the bottom image?
There is evidence of a cement foundation behind the man’s feet in the top photo shows more of the foundation, which is practically non-existant in the bottom photo.
The white undershirt of the man is more visible in the bottom photo. Also, his left shoulder is more exposed in the bottom photo. Likewise, his pose is slightly altered, as is the angle of the bend in his knees.
The top photo looks obviously posed. And photoshopped. (A bit!) ;)
