“Spiderman” Finally Climbs Up to Petronas Towers

The 47-year-old “Spiderman” French climber Alain Robert, finally scaled the 88 story Tower Two of the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sept. 1, 2009. I said “finally” because “Climbing the Petronas all the way to the top is one of Robert’s dreams” and this was his third attempt to climb this skyscraper following two failed attempts in 1998 and 2007; he was arrested prior to reaching the top.
Robert began his climb around 6:00am without any safety equipment and reaching the top of the 452-meter tower at around 7:30am. As he stood on top one of the two pillars helicopters flew around the skyscraper as Robert raised his arms in victory.
Robert was detained by Malaysia police as he went back into the building on the 88th floor. Kuala Lumpur police chief Muhammad Sabtu Osman said he could be charged with criminal trespass. “He climbed the building without a permit from the management,” he told the AFP news agency.
