The 54-year-old Thai forensic pathologist Porntip Rojanasunan, a.k.a. Dr. Death, is very famous in Malaysia recently after she concluded that Malaysian opposition Democratic Action Party (DAP) aide Teoh Beng Hock, who had been detained by the Malaysian federal Government’s Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, may have been strangled and beaten before falling to his death from anti-corruption offices where he was being questioned; he had an 80% probability of being murdered!

Porntip is also an author and human rights activist. She has repeatedly publicly stated that she has come across evidence of police abuses during her work. After the tsunami disaster in 2004, Porntip took charge to identify more than 5,000 victims in the Phang Nga region.

Dr. Death’s image doesn’t match with her professional status; she looks more like a superstar with colorful punk-rock hair, eccentric clothing, sparkly makeup and platform shoes. I like her because she is brave; she never compromised with others including battle with the police who sometimes hide the truth for some reasons; she just wants to tell the truth for her clients – dead bodies.

According to Porntip, she wanted to work for society but also wanted to dress in this style. However, being an ordinary doctor was not a good way for her, so she decided to work with the dead because the dead do not complain.
